Since its inception in 1986, the World Food Prize has accumulated a rich history which incorporates many international actors. The Archival Intern assists with the organization and documentation of this history, in order to ensure preservation. This intern will work directly with the Archive Program Coordinator while helping sort, select, catalog and process material that is housed in the World Food Prize’s physical and digital archive. This internship will provide critical insight into archival management and database integration, while providing hands-on experience. Duties include: 

  • Assess the existing collection and help to continue developing a thorough and consistent method in archiving

  • Scan or photograph negatives, prints, and other types of materials to preservation standards

  • Create and maintain electronic record of the collection

  • Help identify and assess the archival values of materials

  • Process the collection, including physical arrangement (sorting, boxing, scanning, labeling)

  • Build on the current inventory and create descriptions of materials

  • Create database records in Re:Discovery Proficio Elements collections management system

  • Create the collection guides and other basic finding aids

  • Communicate with other special collection interns and special collection staff

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and organized. This intern will bring new ideas to the archive and help preserve important documents and artifacts of the World Food Prize. Interns will possess strong written and verbal skills, pay close attention to detail, and be willing to learn quickly.
