THE 2019 WORLD FOOD PRIZE was formally awarded to Simon N. Groot of the Netherlands, during a ceremony held at the Iowa State Capitol on October 17, 2019. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the 33rd World Food Prize 2019 Borlaug Dialogue International Symposium, themed "Peace Through Agriculture."
Groot recieved the award for his work empowering millions of smallholder farmers in more than 60 countries to earn higher incomes through enhanced vegetable production, making nutritious diets more accessible for millions of consumers.
