THE 2017 WORLD FOOD PRIZE was formally awarded to Dr. Akinwumi Adesina during a ceremony held at the Iowa State Capitol on October 19, 2017. The ceremony took place during the 2017 World Food Prize Borlaug Dialogue, themed “The Road out of Poverty.”
Dr. Akinwumi Adesina received the award for his exceptional and innovative work in the African food system. By eliminating corruption in the fertilizer industry, leveraging billions in loans to smallholder farmers and continually pushing for more efficient crops, Dr. Adesina was justly award the 2017 World Food Prize.
