Jeff Giauque
Director, Agriculture Policy, U.S. Department of State
Jeffrey Giauque is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. He has been Director of the State Department’s Agriculture Trade Policy and Negotiations Office since August 2021. In this position, he is responsible for high level interagency coordination on all aspects of U.S. trade policy concerning agriculture, including agricultural innovation, food security, food safety, food aid, agricultural investment, and outreach to the private sector.
Previously Dr. Giauque served as Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Belarus, where he led the embassy’s response to fraudulent Belarusian elections, a violent post-election crackdown, and the politically-motivated arrests of American citizens. He has also served as a Member of the State Department’s Policy Planning Staff and as Acting Director of the Office of European Union Affairs. Dr. Giauque has a BA in history and French from the University of Utah and an MA and PhD from Ohio State University in modern European history and the history of American foreign relations.
