AgricFresh

AgricFresh is an innovative AgriTech venture tackling post-harvest losses, a major challenge for smallholder farmers in Africa who often lose up to 40% of their crops due to poor storage, transport and limited access to reliable markets. These losses reduce farmers’ incomes, waste resources and contribute to food insecurity in local communities.

Our solution is a solar-powered IoT cold box that is portable and easy to deploy, allowing farmers to store fruits and vegetables safely for 5 to 30 days. The IoT sensors monitor temperature, humidity and produce quality in real time, helping farmers take proactive measures to reduce spoilage.

In addition to storage, AgricFresh provides a digital market linkage platform that connects farmers directly to buyers, aggregators and retailers. This enables faster sales, fair pricing and more efficient distribution, ensuring that fresh produce reaches markets before it spoils.

Since its launch, AgricFresh has supported over 3,000 farmers, helped prevent more than 1,200 tons of produce from spoiling and saved over $250,000 in potential losses. Farmers gain higher incomes, buyers access consistent, traceable, high-quality produce and communities benefit from improved food security.

AgricFresh creates social and economic value by empowering rural communities with technology-driven solutions, reducing food waste and increasing livelihoods. The project also advances environmental sustainability by preserving produce and the resources used to grow it.

By combining clean energy, IoT technology and a market linkage platform, AgricFresh delivers a scalable, inclusive and sustainable solution that strengthens agricultural value chains across Africa, helping farmers preserve more of their harvest while reaching new markets efficiently.
