Youth Voices: Lots of nothing and lots of Bridgerton.

My fourth week is over. Wow. It is unbelievable that I will go home in about three weeks. With the end of my internship coming soon, I am scared I will not be able to write an excellent report. With the protest and the late research start, I do not have much data to prove my hypothesis. I can make it work with what I have attained so far, but I wish I had more to demonstrate the importance of women’s roles.

On Monday, we went to the field for the last time (I think it is the last time, but Pari believes we will go out again soon, but it doesn’t seem likely). We had only met with four farmers that day. The last farmer had a granddaughter who was super shy and adorable. This is my favorite thing in Kenya so far. I love seeing the kids. I believe that kids hold no evil. They are simple, curious creatures. They want to know ‘why?’ Or spend time with their favorite people.

Tuesday was a day to relax. Or that is what I thought it was. I was working on a project when Joyce texted me, saying she wasn’t returning. She told me the Nairobi ICIPE needed her more. Which was mind-boggling because the Mbita ICIPE needed her more. I need her more. She was the only thing keeping me afloat when it felt like the water was rising.

I was in the office starting my data analysis on Wednesday and Friday. We had to condense each question on the questionnaire into groups and assign the numbers. This is called coding. We then placed this information on an Excel spreadsheet for us to put it later through a software called SPSS. This process, I felt, was so tiresome.
