As I sit down to pen this week’s reflections, my heart overflows with a tumultuous blend of emotions. Lima has filled my soul to the brim. With my internship drawing to a close, I find myself on the cusp of week seven; the final stretch of my journey is here.
It’s a moment that prompts introspection. Am I ready to return home? The answer, I realize, is a complex weave of yes and no. Yes, I yearn for the familiar embrace of family, the laughter of friends, and the comforting routine I left behind. Yet, this ache, this yearning, I suspect, will transform into a longing for the friendships forged here — the pulse of this city that has become a part of me.
Lima has exceeded every expectation I harbored when I arrived, driven by a desire to delve deeper into food security’s impact on social and scientific realms. What I discovered ignited a passion for understanding worlds beyond my own. In classrooms past, I encountered phrases urging us to think beyond our boundaries, to grasp perspectives alien to our own. Back then, it seemed abstract, distant from my reality defined by textbooks and lectures. Yet, here in Lima, amid bustling markets and heartfelt conversations, those words have taken on a tangible, transformative meaning.
