Youth Voices: Arriving at CIP Kenya


I arrived at Nairobi near midnight after enduring a marathon 22-hour connecting flight. Yet, stepping out of Jomo Kenyatta Airport, the tiredness melted away as Is potted the familiar CIP logo held high on a placard with my name. I am kindly hosted by Dr. Joyce Maru, who warmly welcomed me with her adorable cat Zoey.
I officially started the internship on my second day in Nairobi. I was astonished by the ILRI (hosting CIP Kenya) campus as I slowly rode in: Nicely-arrange buildings situated in vast green lawns extending beyond the horizon. After a few turns, I finally arrived at the CIP building. My first day was both nervous and exciting. I finally got to meet with my mentor and supervisor for the next two months, Thiago Mendes, and Whitney Machuka, who supported me with everything I needed prior to travel to Kenya, and led me to meet with everyone in the office...[CONTINUE READING]
