The Borlaug Blog

#BorlaugBlog

For 30 years, the World Food Prize has worked to build on the legacy of Dr. Norman Borlaug, the man who saved a billion lives, by recognizing the achievements of individuals who have advanced human development by improving the quality, quantity or availability of food in the world. Our Laureates, our close partners, and our staff work tirelessly to alleviate hunger through innovative approaches, and we hope to share their expertise, research, and personal stories on The Borlaug Blog.

In the Borlaug Blog, we will occasionally post a blog featuring stories, research, and expert opinion from our Laureates, partners, youth representatives and staff. It is our hope that this blog series will create a conversation between farmers, NGOs, CEOs and people across the globe.

Wow, this week has been an adventure. It began with the loco-ness of formulating a research project and ended with a bike ride through the jungle during a rainstorm in short shorts without bug spray and a tire that randomly detached from my friend’s bike 6 miles in. I love...

Just last night, as a blue light illuminated my face, I got to bridge the 9 and a half hour time difference to call my family. Having not spoken to them in over a week, I always savor the WhatsApp calls with friends and family. Oftentimes, they are short and...

Youth Voices: From Colorado to Delhi - A week under the same sky

The frigid air lashed across my face, nipping at my exposed ears and nose. The cold engulfed me in its icy embrace and mercilessly clawed at my lungs, leaving me breathless and heaving for each next breath. Fighting all instincts to curl up into a ball on the icy stepping...

Fio goes to work with animals (specifically buffalos), but other students work in the food processing center, on...

I don’t think I truly believed myself — that a summer of warmth, Telugu, and Hyderabad was right around the corner — until the plane lifted off the ground in the Chicago airport. The past few weeks have been a fever dream, fervently packing and unpacking with my sister until...

Youth Voices: The First 48(ish)

By Lexi Bodlak posted on 06/11/2024 at 3:14 PM
June 2nd, 5:00 pm: As I sat at my grandparent's dinner table with an array of American summer food staples like macaroni salad, grilled steak, and watermelon, I could hardly focus on conversations about my sibling's summer plans. My own would be starting in less than 12 hours. Or so...
