Emma Barrett
World Food Prize Foundation Youth Programs Alumna and Undergraduate Student, Yale University

Emma Barrett is an international sustainable food systems scholar and early career advisor from the United States. Specializing in Environmental Studies as a senior at Yale University, she aims to use environmental policy to make sustainable agriculture and agrobiodiversity accessible to communities worldwide. Her current research focuses on agricultural subsidies' role in climate resilience and food security in central Malawi, southeastern Africa. Her work has been supported by the World Food Prize Foundation and the Yale School of the Environment, and it includes authoring a book chapter about Neglected and Underutilized Species. Most recently, she co-designed a new course on food systems and climate services at the Yale School of the Environment. Emma has conducted research in India, Malawi and Ecuador. As a career advisor, she encourages students to be creative and entrepreneurial in pursuing climate and social impact careers. Emma is an alumna of several World Food Prize Youth Programs and currently serves on the Alumni Fellowship Steering Committee. In the future, Emma plans to pursue professional work, and eventually, a doctorate focusing on the intersection between climate change, health and agrobiodiversity.
