World Food Prize Foundation Announces First Digital Dialogue of 2022

03/23/2022

Tomorrow, the World Food Prize Foundation (WFPF) hosts its first Digital Dialogue of 2022 - She Who Provides: Agriculture and Climate Essentials.

This Digital Dialogue will address the importance of women's role in agriculture, specifically focusing on the unique gender-based constraints women face. Women play a critical role in addressing climate change in agriculture and ensuring our food systems are sustainable from “farm to fork.” The panel of experts will discuss women’s access to productive resources, technical capacity building and appropriate agri-finance. Additionally, questions regarding challenges faced by women in the panelists’ specific contexts, climate-smart agriculture and other solutions both to adapt to and mitigate climate challenges in agriculture will be discussed.

Recent events demonstrate that global supply chains are intrinsically interlinked and the impact of individual events quickly cascade, resulting in rising food and energy prices. Whether the shock is war, a pandemic, floods, famines or drought, women are disproportionately impacted.  The short- and long-term consequences must be mitigated with viable solutions to empower women’s production capacity and purchasing power to ensure food security for all.
