Hon. Julio Berdegué

Secretary-Elect of Agriculture and Rural Development, Government of Mexico

The honorable Dr. Julio Berdegué is a graduate in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Arizona, Master in Agronomy Sciences from the University of California and Doctor in Social Sciences from the University of Wageningen, Netherlands, as well as a candidate for a Doctor of Genetics from the University of California. He participated in the Dialogues for Transformation group, coordinating the Rural Development and Food Sovereignty axis. He has extensive experience in promoting agricultural development and served until August 2022 as Deputy Director General and Regional Representative of FAO for Latin America and the Caribbean. On June 20, 2024, he was appointed Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development of Mexico for the period 2024-2030.
