The 2021 recipient of the prestigious $250,000 World Food Prize will be announced via a webcast on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at 9 a.m. EDT / 8 a.m. CDT.
Often referred to as the “Nobel Prize for Food and Agriculture,” the World Food Prize is the most prominent global award recognizing an individual who has enhanced human development and confronted global hunger through improving the quality, quantity or availability of food for all.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Thomas J. Vilsack and UN Nutrition Chair Naoko Yamamoto will deliver individual remarks during the announcement. Barbara Stinson, President of the World Food Prize Foundation, will announce the name of the 2021 Laureate and Chair of the World Food Prize Laureate Selection Committee, Dr. Gebisa Ejeta, will provide opening remarks..
Following the Announcement of the 2021 Laureate, the Foundation will feature its annual Live with the Laureate Digital Dialogue, a discussion with the 2021 World Food Prize Laureate and Dr. Agnes Kalibata, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the 2021 Food Systems Summit, that highlights the work of the newly announced Laureate.
