The Honorable Jimmy Carter
Hon. Jimmy Carter was born in Plains, Georgia. He attended Georgia Southwestern College and the Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy. He served in the Navy as a submariner in the Atlantic and Pacific fleets and rose to the rank of lieutenant.
Mr. Carter has served in several public policy positions including member of the Georgia State Senate, Governor of Georgia, and was the 39th President of the United States. After his presidency, Mr. Carter and his wife founded the Carter Center, which addresses national and international issues of public policy and works to resolve conflict, promote democracy, protect human rights and prevent disease.
Mr. Carter and his wife Rosalynn Smith Carter have four children. He is the recipient of various awards and honors including the 1999 Presidential Medal of Honor and the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize. Other awards and honors include numerous honorary degrees from universities in the U.S. and abroad, the Harry S. Truman Public Service Award, the Liberty Medal, the Conservationist of the Year Award, the J. William Fulbright Prize for International Understanding, the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, the United Nations Human Rights Award, and the American Peace Award.
