Nteranya Sanginga
Director General, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA)
Dr Nteranya Sanginga has 30 years of experience in international agricultural research and development and research administration with various international organizations and universities, particularly in applied microbial ecology, plant nutrition, and integrated natural resources management in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.
Under his leadership, IITA has been transformed from a pan-African research organization into a truly international R4D organization with a tropical but very African focus.
As the largest international agriculture research center in tropical Africa, IITA has developed solutions to many agricultural and development challenges and contributed to food and nutrition security in the region. For its groundbreaking work, IITA had received the 2018 Africa Food Prize and the Al-Sumait Prize for Food Security in 2016.
In 2017, IITA celebrated 50 years of service to African agriculture, the smallholder farmers, and rural farming communities.
