Born on the Caribbean island of Trinidad, Dr. Shakuntala Haraksingh Thilsted’s upbringing motivated her to pursue better nutrition for women and their children. While working at a research center in Bangladesh, she realized that there must be fundamental changes to food systems to meet nutrition needs. Thilsted will be awarded the 2021 World Food Prize for her life-saving work expanding the knowledge of the nutritional benefits of small fish and finding ways to incorporate this nutrient-dense food in the diets of many undernourished people. #FoodPrize21
