Spring Semester

Each spring, the World Food Prize selects a highly qualified undergraduate or graduate student for the unique opportunity to take significant responsibility and initiative in the nominations and selection process for the two prestigious awards given by the organization, and in coordinating the annual Laureate Lecture Series. This internship gives students unparalleled professional experience in archive and awards management. Various duties include: 

  • Assist in promoting call for nominations for the World Food Prize and Borlaug Field Award
  • Prepare nomination materials for viewing by Selection Committee
  • Assist in research and preparation of the story for the announcement of the Laureate (occurring in May/June)
  • Update website and nominations archive

The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, a solid work ethic, a capacity for analytical thinking, impeccable attention to detail and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Summer Semester through October

Lecture Series Planning

Each summer, the World Food Prize selects a highly qualified undergraduate or graduate student for the unique opportunity to take significant responsibility and initiative in coordinating the annual Laureate Lecture Series. This internship gives students unparalleled professional experience in event planning. Various duties include: 

  • Coordinate Laureate Lecture Series: match speakers with venues for 20+ lectures taking place throughout Central Iowa in October
  • Correspond with venues and high-level speakers participating in Lecture Series to ensure proper handling of logistics
  • Serve as representative of the World Food Prize during the Borlaug Dialogue to high-ranking attendees; interact with Laureates, award winners, and Council of Advisors members
  • Assist in managing schedules of VIPs

The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, a solid work ethic, a capacity for analytical thinking, impeccable attention to detail and excellent oral and written communication skills.
