With a strong connection to the Des Moines and Iowa community, the World Food Prize Foundation strives to uphold that relationship by continuing to address food insecurity directly around us. The Community Relations and Grassroots Efforts Intern will help fulfill this mission by working directly with the Director of Community Outreach in planning and executing the Iowa Hunger Summit, which takes place every October in Des Moines, IA. The Iowa Hunger Summit brings together Iowans from around the state to collectively eradicate hunger. This intern is a highly qualified undergraduate or graduate student who will gain critical insight into the workings of an international non-profit organization, while engaging directly with the community. Interns will gain experience in outreach efforts, event planning, and community relationship building. Duties include, but are certainly not limited to:
Participating in local events
Researching potential speakers and panel topics
Event planning
Outreach to local and national patterns
Marketing and promoting the Iowa Hunger Summit + Iowa Hunger Directory
Website content creation
Scheduling and updating social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
Database management
The ideal candidate will have an immovable capacity for analytical thinking, impeccable attention to detail, willingness to work in a flexible and fluid environment, a desire to learn, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
