Members of the “Orange Revolution”, Drs. Maria Andrade, Robert Mwanga, Jan Low, and Howarth Bouis, will receive the 2016 World Food Prize for their work with biofortication. Their groundbreaking integrated approach of scientific breeding, extension training, nutrition education and marketing has reduced malnutrition and improved health by providing critical micronutrients in the diets of millions of rural poor in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. #FoodPrize16


 

The 2016 World Food Prize will be awarded to… Drs. Maria Andrade, Robert Mwanga, Jan Low, and Howarth Bouis! These laureates implemented biofortification as an agricultural approach to increasing vitamins and minerals in staple crops through conventional breeding methods. #FoodPrize16


 

The World Food Prize announces its 2016 Laureates: Drs. Maria Andrade, Jan Low and Robert Mwanga helped in providing Vitamin A-rich orange-fleshed sweet potatoes to Sub-Saharan African countries and Dr. Howarth Bouis created a global multi-sector organization, HarvestPlus, which has released biofortified crops in 30 countries worldwide. #FoodPrize16


 

Groundbreaking work in agriculture-based biofortification will be recognized in the 2016 World Food Prize. Drs. Maria Andrade, Robert Mwanga, Jan Low, and Howarth Bouis helped reduce malnutrition and improved public health through biofortification, which is the process of breeding new varieties of food crops that contain higher amounts of nutrients. #FoodPrize16
