Title: Food Systems and Diets: Facing the Challenges of the 21st Century

Time: 08:00 AM – 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 13, 2016

Location: Cedar Rapids Room, 3rd Floor

Event Description: The Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition is pleased to present its new Foresight report Food Systems and Diets: Facing the Challenges of the 21st Century at the 2016 Borlaug Dialogue International Symposium. This evidence-based Report outlines the toll that malnutrition takes on individuals, nations and economies today and forecasts the expanding costs and consequences if these trends continue. It also provides a guide for governments and decision-makers to change course through action and investment to create food systems that promote health and deliver quality diets.

Ambassador Kenneth Quinn (President, World Food Prize Foundation) will give opening remarks to welcome speakers and attendees to the meeting. Dr Lawrence Haddad, Chair of the Lead Expert Group for the Foresight Report, will share key messages from the Report and emphasise the case for taking action now. Following Dr Haddad’s presentation, Dr Howarth Bouis (Director, HarvestPlus and 2016 World Food Prize Winner), Dr Bonnie McClafferty (Director, Agriculture and Nutrition, GAIN), and Ms Emmy Simmons (Global Panel member; formerly of USAID)  will give remarks, comment on the Report, and respond to questions from the audience to provide insight on the challenges and opportunities for ensuring healthy diets in the 21st century. We hope you will be able to join us.
