Innovative, integrated solutions in all segments of agriculture—livestock production, food science, and crops and soils—are required to sustainably meet demands to feed a growing world population.

During this program, CAST will present highlights of its 12-paper series, The Need for Agricultural Innovation to Sustainably Feed the World by 2050. The Ag Innovation series focuses on the dramatic changes needed to accelerate productivity in crop and animal systems while reducing negative impacts on the environment, and looks at specific programs, policies, and techniques that will advance global food security.

Technologies on the Shelf, the keynote in this series, will examine known agricultural and food technologies that are underutilized or not used at all due to regulatory and trade barriers, perceived dangers, or consumer preferences. With examples such as golden rice and irradiation, experts will explain the reasons for this and look at ways the problem can be rectified.
