World Food Prize Foundation Invites Community to Join Special Meal-Packaging Event During 2025 Iowa Hunger Summit

06/09/2025

The World Food Prize Foundation invites Iowans and organizations across the state to take part in a powerful, hands-on service opportunity during the 19th annual Iowa Hunger Summit on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the Norman E. Borlaug Hall of Laureates in Des Moines.

In partnership with Meals from the Heartland, volunteers will work together from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. CDT to package more than 35,000 meals for Iowans experiencing food insecurity. This one-hour session of action and impact is a meaningful way to contribute to the fight against hunger—and to connect with others who share a commitment to creating lasting change in local communities.

“This meal-packaging event is a vital expression of the Summit’s theme, From the Ground Up,” said Mashal Husain, President, World Food Prize Foundation. “It’s a chance for Iowans to come together and take direct action to support our neighbors in need.”

The meal-packaging initiative is one component of the full Iowa Hunger Summit, a free, day-long gathering from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. that includes plenaries, breakout sessions and networking opportunities focused on hunger and food system challenges across the lifespan.

Register for the entire Iowa Hunger Summit to engage in a dynamic day of expert-led sessions, collaborative discussions, and statewide networking—all focused on advancing solutions to hunger.
