The World Food Prize Foundation Pays Tribute to former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan

08/19/2018

“The World Food Prize Foundation extends its condolences to the family and colleagues of former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan on his passing,” stated foundation president Ambassador Kenneth Quinn.

“Kofi Annan’s vision in creating the United Nations Millennium Development Goals to ensure global food security for all in the 21st century, will ultimately be seen as his greatest contribution. Reflecting this global leadership, it was my privilege to present to him our World Food Prize Norman Borlaug Medallion at the 2010 African Green Revolution Forum in his home country of Ghana, and that same year to welcome him to the stage of our Borlaug Dialogue International Symposium where he delivered the keynote address on the theme of “Take it to the Farmer.’”

“My earliest memory of interacting with Kofi Annan came in the early 1990s when as an American diplomat we worked together to deploy a UN peacekeeping force to Cambodia. I was also with him in Oslo in 2001 as he received the Nobel Peace Prize.”
