As our planet struggles to produce sufficient nutritious food in a sustainable way in the decades ahead, we take great comfort in having your unique combination of humanitarian instincts and scientific ability to lead the struggle to confront this the greatest challenge in all human history. 
 
It is an incomparable privilege not only to know you but to have you as the most esteemed member of the World Food Prize Foundation. As the Dean of our Laureates, your sterling reputation and unparalleled record of accomplishments brings enormous reflected prestige and honor to our award and our organization. 
 
My personal association with you over the past decade is one of the most meaningful episodes of my life and will always be an enduring and treasured memory.
