A new Iowa Hunger Directory will create a comprehensive list of Iowa organizations combatting hunger here and abroad, Ken Quinn, World Food Prize president announced Tuesday as part of the Iowa Hunger Summit.
The directory will help track efforts by Iowa organizations and better quantify both the level of need in the state, as well as amount of relief distributed, Quinn said at the Iowa Hunger Summit.
The Iowa Hunger Directory is anticipated to be a year-round extension of the Iowa Hunger Summit, held annually as part of the World Food Prize activities.
“We want to create a comprehensive listing of Iowa organizations combatting hunger,” Quinn said in a news release. “We know there are dynamic organizations and dedicated people who are working diligently fighting hunger throughout the state and around the world and we want to facilitate their collaboration and connectivity. Also, this will allow us to collect more accurate information on their efforts.”
The day’s events also featured addresses by Jo Ann Jenkins of the AARP Foundation, farmer and hunger fighter Howard Buffett and a welcome by Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad.
