9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Iowa Hunger Summit
Press are welcome all day. The morning keynote speaker is Jo Ann
Jenkins, Executive Director of AARP at 10 a.m. The Hunger Luncheon begins at noon and will feature a keynote address by Howard Buffett, President of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. Unique meals used in hunger fighting efforts will be served and the annual announcement of Iowans’ contributions to fighting hunger will be announced.

10:00 a.m. Press Conference with Carl Winter, CAST Communications Award Winner
Dr. Carl Winter, Director of the FoodSafe Program and Extension Food.Toxicologist in the Department of Food Science and Technology, University of California-Davis, will be available for media interviews following his receipt of the Borlaug CAST Award.
The Borlaug CAST Communications Award is given annually by the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) to a specialist who communicates the importance of food and agricultural science to the public, policymakers and the news media.
As an accomplished musician, Winter writes, records, produces, and performs musical parodies of contemporary popular music on themes of food safety. Winter has given nearly 200 live performances at conferences, trade shows and public gatherings in 39 states and Canada and has distributed more than 30,000 audio CDs and animated music DVDs. His Food Safety Music Website and YouTube page have attracted a total of nearly one million visitors.
11:00 a.m. Press Conference: David Beckman, Executive Director - Bread for the World
The 2012 Elections: Ending Hunger in the United States Hunger and poverty have been invisible issues in the election discussion. Poverty is a key issue that must be addressed in the 2012 election; candidates can no longer be silent. That’s why Bread for the World— along with leaders of a number of Christian denominations and organizations called the Circle of Protection — called on President Obama and Mitt Romney to publicly state what each will to do to provide help and opportunity for hungry and poor people in our country and around the world. Both candidates provided video responses. Whoever wins the election, we will call upon him to set a goal and develop a plan to end hunger. We are calling upon all our elected officials to create a circle of protection around programs vital to hungry people in the United States and abroad.
5:30 p.m. The Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application at The World Food Prize Hall of Laureates at 100 Locust Street
This $10,000 Rockefeller Foundation endowed award is to recognize exceptional science-based achievement in international agriculture and food production by an individual under the age of 40 who has clearly demonstrated Borlaug-like intellectual courage, stamina and determination in the fight to eliminate global hunger and poverty.

7:00 p.m. 2012 World Food Prize Laureate Ceremony
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to speak at the Laureate Ceremony awarding Dr. Daniel Hillel the 2012 World Food Prize. Additional security measures will be in effect and anyone planning on attending should plan to leave at 6:00 p.m. and be sure to have their Press Badge with them.

7:30 a.m. Ertharin Cousin, Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme
Ertharin Cousin brings more than 25 years of national and international non-profit, government and corporate leadership experience focusing on hunger, food and resilience strategies. Cousin guides the World Food Programme in meeting urgent food needs while championing longer-term solutions to food insecurity and hunger.
12:30 p.m. Laureate Lunch
Dr. Daniel Hillel, the 2012 World Food Prize Laureate, will deliver his Laureate Address to the Borlaug Dialogue international symposium.
3:00 p.m. Iowa Farm Tours
Experience a real Iowa family farm during the harvest season and see what it takes to produce sustainable, nutritious and safe food. The farm visit will be followed by a traditional Iowa barbeque. Wear casual shoes and clothes. Buses will depart from the Marriot Hotel at 3:00 p.m. and return at 9:30 p.m.
