2006 WFP Speakers Bob Gates and Josette Sheeran selected to head organizations

2006 World Food Prize Symposium speakers Dr. Robert Gates and Hon. Josette Sheeran have been appointed to new positions this week. Gates has been nominated to become the next United States Secretay of Defense and Josette Sheeran has been appointed Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme.
Sheeran's appointment was announced on Tuesday by United-Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and Food and Agriculture Organization Director-General Jacques Diouf. She will succeed James Morris in her position.
Gates' appointment was announced last Wednesday by President Bush. His confirmation hearings will begin shortly.
