World Food Prize Foundation Announces Appointment of New Borlaug Dialogue Program Coordinator

The World Food Prize Foundation announced today that Amy Bettle has joined its staff as a Program Coordinator. 

“Amy brings a wealth of experience from around the globe, specifically in agriculture and event management,” said Barbara Stinson, President of the World Food Prize Foundation. “Her knowledge and experience in a wide variety of settings will be invaluable as the World Food Prize Foundation continues to evolve our program offerings each year.”

As a Program Coordinator, Ms. Bettle will be responsible for assisting the Director of Planning in the implementation and creation of the annual Norman E. Borlaug International Symposium which brings together over 1,200 people from 60 to 65 countries each year.

Ms. Bettle has a strong history with the Foundation having previously served as George Washington Carver intern in 2018 and a member of the Foundation volunteer Reserve Corps team in 2019. 

Prior to officially joining the World Food Prize Foundation, Ms. Bettle was a member of the Peace Corps and stationed in Zambia as an Agriculture and Forestry Extension Agent. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, her service was cut short, and she returned to the United States and officially joined the Foundation. 

“After the Peace Corps evacuation, I was looking for opportunities to continue advancing food security, build relationships and deepen my own learning,” said Ms. Bettle. “Formulating and executing the Borlaug Dialogue fulfills these aspirations, and the Foundation team continually impresses me with their mentorship and commitment to our mission."

Ms. Bettle will aid in creation and execution of events related to the annual symposium with a strong focus on developing programming focused on international food security. Through curation of the symposium topics and  coordination of event logistics, she aims to stimulate dialogue between diverse stakeholders that is inspiring, inclusive and actionable, whether in-person or virtually.

Ms. Bettle graduated from Iowa State University in 2019 with a double degree in Environmental Science, B.S. and Event Management, B.S. During her time at Iowa State University, she received two major academic scholarships - the Iowa State George Washington Carver Full-Tuition Merit Scholarship and U.S. Department of State Gilman International Scholarship. The Gilman Scholarship funded her research project with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome, Italy. The project evaluated the sustainability of commercializing in vitro meat, and Ms. Bettle focused on the environmental impacts of this nascent technology.
