Welcome to the 2021 Honduras Youth Institute, hosted by Zamorano Pan-American Agricultural University.

This year's online Youth Institute will gather students, teachers, and experts from across Honduras to discuss the most pressing issues we face in fighting hunger at home and abroad. We will connect virtually through the Zoom video conferencing platform

Gabriela Quesada, District Sales Manager for Central America & Caribbean Countries, representing Corteva Agriscience, shares the importance of creativity, research and leadership in agriscience. There are many careers that young people can get involved to end world hunger. 

Gabriela Quesada, Gerente de Ventas de Distrito para América Central y Países del Caribe, en representación de Corteva Agriscience, comparte la importancia de la creatividad, la investigación y el liderazgo en agroeciencia. Hay muchas carreras en las que los jóvenes pueden participar para acabar con el hambre en el mundo.

Ms. Blanca Fortin is a science teacher and mentor of students writing their World Food Prize Youth Institute papers. She will facilitate a workshop to engage students in researching and writing a draft of ideas to improve food security and food systems to share with the experts at the roundtables. 

La Sra. Blanca Fortin es maestra de ciencias y mentora de los estudiantes que escriben sus ensayos para Instituto Juvenil del Premio Mundial de la Alimentación. Ella facilitará un taller para involucrar a los estudiantes en la investigación y redacción de un borrador de ideas para mejorar la seguridad alimentaria y los sistemas alimentarios para compartir con los expertos en las mesas redondas.

Roundtable Presentations will use the following guide for the session:

  • 1:00 - 1:10 pm  |  Welcome & Introductions
    Room host will introduce experts and explain procedures.
  • 1:10 - 2:30 pm  |  Student Presentations
    Each student will have up to 3 minutes to present their paper, with 3-5 minutes of comments and questions about their presentation from the Experts and other students.
  • 2:30 - 2:55 pm  |  Group Discussion
    After all students have presented, students and experts will discuss broad themes that arose during the paper presentations. What similarities or differences exist in the countries discussed? Are there approaches proposed in one presentation that could work in a different context? The discussion topics are up to you!


3:00 - 4:00 pm | Borlaug Scholar Ceremony & Closing Session
