  • Convention center operates on 91 percent renewable energy
  • Single-use items are fully compostable
  • All food that has been plated, but not consumed, is donated if possible. If it is not possible, items are composted
  • Surplus food from the buffet line is cooled to food and safety standards, placed in pans and wrapped and delivered to community fridges in the Des Moines metro area through Supply Hive
  • When possible, locally-sourced food is served
  • The new sidewalk at the convention center is made with 100 percent recycled materials from the previous iteration
  • The venue tracks carbon emissions during the Borlaug Dialogue to provide accurate numbers that can be used in post-event carbon offset efforts
