Celebrate the Holiday Season and Help Fight Local Hunger at the World Food Prize Foundation’s Annual Holiday Open House

The World Food Prize Foundation invites the community to celebrate the holiday season at the annual Holiday Open House on Saturday, Dec. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Norman E. Borlaug Hall of Laureates in downtown Des Moines.

This free, family-friendly event will feature festive activities, holiday treats and opportunities to explore the historic Hall of Laureates. In the spirit of giving, guests are encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations to support individuals and families experiencing food insecurity in the greater Des Moines area.

“I am excited to welcome the community to the Hall of Laureates to celebrate this special time of year,” said Mashal Husain, President, World Food Prize Foundation. “The Holiday Open House is an opportunity to bring people together while encouraging meaningful action to help address hunger in our own community.”

Guests can enjoy visits with Santa Claus, seasonal treats and festive holiday music. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the Hall’s distinctive art and architecture, with docents available to share the history of the building and highlight the Foundation’s work advancing global food security.

While the event offers an opportunity to celebrate the season, it also serves as a reminder that hunger affects families close to home. Community members are encouraged to contribute nonperishable food items to help support local hunger-relief efforts. A list of the most-needed items is available through the Des Moines Area Religious Council.

The Holiday Open House is free and open to all ages. The event will take place at the Norman E. Borlaug Hall of Laureates, located at 100 Locust St. in Des Moines.
