Thomas L. (Tom) Thompson is Associate Dean and Director of Global Programs in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech. “CALS Global” builds partnerships on campus and around the world, creates opportunities for global engagement for students and faculty, and fosters successful global service and impact. He leads engagement of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences with key partners, including Egerton University in Kenya, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and others. Under his leadership, the Global Agricultural Productivity Report was awarded to Virginia Tech in 2019. Thompson earned BS, MS, and PhD degrees in agronomy and soil science. He was department head at Virginia Tech (2011-16) and Texas Tech University (2006-11) and professor and extension specialist at the University of Arizona from 1991 to 2006. His recent research and outreach have focused on adoption of conservation agriculture in smallholder farming systems in Haiti, Senegal, and Southeast Asia.
