Empowering the Next Generation | WATCH

Youth are already tackling the most pressing challenges that society faces and doing so in communities across the world. Their voices, intellect, creativity, and power should be nurtured and cherished. Dr. Norman Borlaug and John Ruan Sr. believed wholeheartedly in empowering the next generation of trailblazers in food and agriculture. The World Food Prize Foundation is committed to inspiring, engaging, and equipping young leaders to overcome global challenges. 

Alumni of the World Food Prize Foundation’s youth programs share how their experiences inspired them to join and advocate for youth’s vital role in alleviating global challenges. These champion leaders will share their advice for empowering the next generation to positively shape food systems and improve sustainable, nutritious food security.

Live with the Laureate: A Conversation with Heidi Kühn | WATCH

Emmy award-winning broadcast journalist Cheryl Jennings will interview 2023 World Food Prize Laureate Heidi Kühn about the work of her nonprofit organization, Roots of Peace, which Kühn founded in 1997 to replace remnants of war and restore the land to agricultural uses with the planting of millions of grapevines and fruit trees. 

Kühn and Roots of Peace began building peace through agriculture 25 years ago by partnering with wineries in her home state of California to raise funds to remove landmines in Croatia and replant vineyards and orchards. She has since worked in nine countries, including current projects in Afghanistan and Vietnam, and is exploring starting a program in Ukraine.

Innovations have radically and repeatedly shaped and reshaped food and agricultural systems, revolutionizing the production, processing, storage, distribution, and consumption of nutritious food. Join World Food Prize Foundation President Ambassador Terry Branstad and our three most recent Borlaug Field Award Recipients, Salma SultanaElliott Dossou-Yovo, and Mahalingam Govindaraj, as we hear more about their ongoing research and work across Africa and Southeast Asia. These champions in innovation will share their recommendations for adopting and scaling creative solutions that are more equitable, economically viable, and contextually relevant.
