The World Food Prize Foundation announced today the selection of eight students for its distinguished George Washington Carver (GWC) Internship program this spring. Each academic semester and summer, highly qualified students are selected for this unique opportunity. These students will play an essential role in the execution of the World Food Prize Foundation’s variety of high-profile events.
This program has returned to in-person programming, allowing interns to connect and build meaningful relationships with the World Food Prize Foundation team.
"We believe in cultivating an environment where interns feel encouraged to reach higher levels of professional development and specialized capabilities,” said Mashal Husain, Chief Operating Officer, World Food Prize Foundation. “This internship provides an unique insight into the organizational goals of the World Food Prize Foundation, while allowing students to develop professional skills in uncommon career areas.”
This year’s program features a multitude of students in local colleges and universities, including DMACC, Drake University, Grand View University and Iowa State University. The eight interns are developing professional skills in areas like communications, international dialogues, graphic design and youth programming.
Each intern will be paired with a World Food Prize Foundation mentor, each of whom has expert knowledge in their field to impart. The internship focuses on developing the student's professional and educational experience, but also offers many opportunities for interns to have a tangible impact on the community.
"I hope to develop a deeper understanding of how the World Food Prize Foundation works to handle current food issues and the role that youth programming and education can play in that process," said Amanda Ostrem, GWC Spring intern. "Coming from an agricultural background, I am excited to see how agricultural processes and global organizations work together to attack hunger-related issues and to carry that knowledge into my future."
