2019 Inspiring the Next Generation Award: Kacia Cain & Tricia Reichert

Kacia Cain and Tricia Reichert are the recipients of the 2019 Inspiring the Next Generation Award for their contributions to the education of Iowan high school students in Des Moines and Emmetsburg. Cain is a teacher of college genetics, microbiology, college anatomy and physiology at Central Campus Des Moines, Iowa. Reichert is a high school science teacher as well as head of the science department and a TRIO Upward Bound study lab instructor in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Both Cain and Reichert have used their positions to educate low-income and underprivileged students in advanced natural sciences through partnerships with the Des Moines Area Community College and the TRIO Upward Bound program. Cain and Reichert were presented the award at the World Food Prize Laureate Award Ceremony by Jeanie Borlaug-Laube, chair of the Borlaug Global Rust Initiative and daughter of Norman Borlaug.
