For decades, the World Food Prize Foundation has carried forward the legacy of Dr. Norman E. Borlaug — the man credited with saving more than one billion lives — by recognizing individuals whose achievements have advanced human development through improvements in the quality, quantity and availability of food around the world. Our Laureates, partners and staff continue that legacy every day, working to alleviate hunger through innovation, collaboration and scientific discovery.

The Borlaug Blog extends those conversations by sharing the expertise, research and personal stories of our Laureates, partners, youth leaders and Foundation staff. Through these perspectives, we hope to foster meaningful dialogue among farmers, researchers, policymakers, business leaders, students and global citizens who are committed to building a more food-secure future.

By Lily Hestjean2024 Borlaug-Ruan International Intern Did you know – when using a dough press to make empanadas, you need to separate the dough from the press with a plastic covering, or else it will PERMANENTLY stick?  Oops.  My friends invited me to make empanadas (secretly, using borrowed pans) in the dorms, and fully aware…

  • Youth Voices: What was this week?

    Categories:

By Hope Williams2024 Borlaug-Ruan International Intern The craziest week so far. Pari and I started the week pretty chill, waiting for Joyce’s return. Then, somehow, we ended up at the Tanzania border four days into the week, where we went face-to-face with cockroaches and centipedes. Only to come home on Saturday with the worst stomachache…

Despite the steady whir of the fan to my left, beads of sweat teetered precariously at the sides of my face already baked in a sharp-smelling, heavy concoction of sunscreen and bug spray. As…
