Scrimshaw, Swaminathan headline CFTRI Symposium

Prof. M. S. Swaminathan, 1987 World Food Prize Laureate, Founding Director and Chairman, M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation in Chennai, India; Dr. V. Prakash, Director, Central Foods Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) in Mysore, India; and Dr. Nevin S. Scrimshaw, 1991 World Food Prize Laureate, Founder and President, International Nutrition Foundation, Boston,MA, USA.

 Dr. Nevin Scrimshaw and Prof. M.S. Swaminathan recently headlined the “International Symposium on Building Leadership Skills in Food and Nutrition Essential for National Development” organized by CFTRI and held in Mysore, India from June 23-25, 2006. Dr. Swaminathan gave the opening welcome for the Inauguration of the Symposium by lighting the lamp, and Dr. Scrimshaw gave the keynote address.

According to organizers, the event had a threefold mission. First, the symposium aimed to bring together individuals with interest in building human capacity and leadership on food for nutrition in developing countries.

Its next goal was to explore how leadership skills can be developed in food and nutrition for critical national development.

Finally, the event considered enhancing organizational, technical and scientific skills to address global nutritional challenges as an essential and challenging task.
