Description: Catholic Charities is a non-profit, social service organization that serves people of all faiths in Central and Southwest Iowa. Each year, Catholic Charities offers food, clothing, shelter, counseling and hope to more than 20,000 people.Guided by the teachings of the Catholic Church, they serve all people in need with compassion, competence, advocate for justice and encourage all people of good will to join in these efforts. Services of Catholic Charities include: adoption & pregnancy counseling, therapy & life counseling, refugee resettlement, Hispanic community outreach, the Phoenix House providing domestic violence and sexual abuse services, St. Joseph Emergency Family Shelter providing emergency shelter to families, and St. Mary Family Center providing food, clothing, and infant care items to individuals and families. Additionally, the Global Advocacy Team, the Social Justice Consortium and the Center for Social Ministry promote the social justice mission of the Catholic Church through advocacy. The Global Advocacy Team serves as a grassroots collective Catholic voice for the poor and vulnerable overseas, promoting smart and effective policies that address the root causes of conflict, hunger and disease. Motivated by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, they preserve and uphold the sacredness and dignity of all human life around the world.
