Ermias Kebreab

Ermias Kebreab is a globally recognized expert in sustainable dairy science and livestock emissions reduction, with over 25 years of pioneering research in animal nutrition and environmental sustainability. As a Professor and Sesnon Endowed Chair at the University of California, Davis, and current Director of its World Food Center, he has shaped global agricultural innovation through science, policy, and education. His landmark research (most notably the first in vivo study showing over 50% methane reduction in cows using macroalgae) has influenced commercial technologies and climate-smart livestock systems. He is also leading a $70 million CRISPR-based project to engineer gut microbes for methane mitigation. Kebreab has held key academic and leadership roles at institutions across North America and Europe, including Associate Dean at UC Davis and Canada Research Chair at the University of Manitoba. His work bridges scientific advancement with global food policy, driving transformative change in sustainable agriculture worldwide.
