Boddupalli Maruthi Prasanna is an agricultural scientist whose pioneering contributions to maize genetics, breeding and seed systems have significantly advanced food security and agricultural resilience in Africa, Asia and Latin America. With over three decades of experience, Prasanna has played a crucial role in developing
climate-resilient maize varieties, strengthening seed systems and promoting sustainable intensification for smallholder farmers. He led global efforts in breeding stress-tolerant and biofortified maize varieties, ensuring greater productivity and nutritional value. His leadership was also instrumental in addressing emerging threats to global maize production, particularly fall armyworm management and disease resistance strategies. Beyond research, Prasanna has made lasting impacts on capacity building and policy advocacy. His efforts in training scientists, strengthening research institutions and fostering international collaboration have been transformative for agricultural innovation and food security policies worldwide. Prasanna is currently the Regional Director for Asia at the Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT).
