Manuel Otero

Director General, Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA)

Dr. Manuel Otero has served as the Director General of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) since January 15, 2018. He holds a Master of Science in Agricultural Development from Wye College of the University of London, a Master in Animal Production from the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center in Costa Rica, and a Veterinary degree from the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences at the University of Buenos Aires.

Under Dr. Otero's administration, IICA emphasizes promoting agricultural and rural development through technical cooperation. He has successfully implemented an innovative policy based on partnerships, developing work agendas with multilateral, bilateral, national, and local entities. Notably, he has fostered strong relationships with the private sector to strengthen agriculture, enhance rural well-being in the Americas, and achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals through new models of cooperation.
