Zachary Stewart

Vice President of Research and Chief Scientist, International Fertilizer Development Center

Dr. Zachary Stewart is the Vice President of Research and Chief Scientist for the International Fertilizer Development Center with over 15 years of experience in international agricultural research and development. He earned his bachelor’s degrees in Biology, Environmental Sciences, and International Relations from Creighton University, master’s degree in Control of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and PhD in Soil Science and Crop Physiology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to his work at IFDC, Dr. Stewart was the Senior Global Food Security Advisor at USAID where he led a portfolio of R&D investments across sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. He also served as a Research Assistant Professor at Kansas State University with the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Collaborative Research on Sustainable Intensification. His research is primarily related to the sustainable intensification of smallholder farming systems and improving the health and fertility of soils as the foundation for nutritious food production and resilient and sustainable livelihoods.
