Interactive Partner Workshops will be featured as part of the plenary agenda of the International Borlaug Dialogue (IBD). Interactive workshops provide the opportunity for registered participants to collaboratively define key issues, explore problems and learn about new strategies, tools and technologies in food systems.
Planned workshops should:
- Engage participants with contemporary advancements and tools in food security.
- Focus on specific issues, causes and solutions with the context of short-, medium-, and long-term impacts.
- Have a strong connection with this year’s International Borlaug Dialogue theme.

Gaining Momentum: Food Systems Transformation in the Decade of Action
Twenty-twenty brought many challenges to and opportunities for working in the Decade of Action towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Communities worldwide faced unprecedented barriers to meeting food security needs with at least 20 countries on the brink of famine, highlighting the importance of global collective action. As we continue to move forward in this decade of action towards the UN Food Systems Summit and other global convenings, we have the opportunity to gain momentum as never before. We recognize that we cannot ‘reboot’ the system, but must transform food systems to right inequitable structures.
Solutions must be innovative, commitments must be bold and collective action must be systematic
This pivotal year offers milestones for international collaboration. The International Borlaug Dialogue follows the UN Food Systems Summit (FSS) and the 48th Committee on World Food Security while building forward for COP26 and the Nutrition for Growth Summit, to gain momentum in the Decade of Action. Country commitments and Coalitions of Action adopted during the UN FSS will be highlighted during the Borlaug Dialogue, reaching additional audiences and widening opportunities for partnership.
The International Borlaug Dialogue annually hosts around 1,200 participants from over 60-65 countries. The audience typically includes academia, public and private sector, non-governmental organizations, multilateral organizations and delegates of the Global Youth Institute. All registered participants will be eligible to attend the workshops, including over 300 students and teachers from the Global Youth Institute.
Format and Logistics
Workshops are hour-long, interactive sessions offered in the plenary International Borlaug Dialogue agenda. They can be presented in any virtual approach according to session organizer preferences. Examples of strong workshop formats are: demonstrations, design and problem-solving sessions, or discussion-based activities around case studies, reports, or other relevant works.
We will work directly with selected proposals to co-develop sessions and coordinate logistics. Applicants should focus on the content and ideas for their Workshop Application and, once selected, we will work together to address format-related details in the lead-up to the International Borlaug Dialogue in October.
Collaboration between organizations, initiatives, and coalitions is highly encouraged in designing and delivering workshops. Please note in your application if you are open to collaboration with other applicants who may have submitted similar or complementary applications. For organizations that are submitting multiple proposals, please submit each proposal separately.
Workshops should be as interactive as possible. We request that organizers allow ample time for participants to ask questions and conduct discussions throughout the session.
Workshops will be delivered virtually through a dynamic, conference-hosting platform. The delivery of the program will be coordinated by the International Borlaug Dialogue team and our production partners.
All submissions for Workshops must be submitted through the 2021 Interactive Workshop Application Form.

A prominent feature of the International Borlaug Dialogue Side Events provide a space for organizations and initiatives to coordinate and execute their own unique event in conjunction with the Dialogues. Side Event partners often aim to demonstrate work, promote further dialogue, and engage attendees through hosted events, panels, receptions, and announcements.
