2021 GYI Frequently Asked Questions

When and where does the 2021 GYI take place?

Due to the ongoing presence of COVID-19 internationally, we have made the decision to remain virtual and host an exciting and interactive virtual experience, October 18-22, with a kick-off party and orientation on Friday, October 15th. Programming will include a variety of live and on-demand experiences that will be delivered in both a comprehensive and manageable format for students and their teacher, mentor, or parent.

What will the schedule look like for a virtual experience?

A copy of the draft agenda can be found HERE. Throughout this week-long event, we will divide content into smaller time frames, allowing you to engage with forward-thinking leaders and ideas at your own pace. Each day listed in the linked schedule will include approximately 2-3 hours of on-demand engagement + live sessions with our favorite hunger-fighting heroes.

What if my teacher is not able to attend the virtual Global Youth Institute?

It is not required for each student to have an adult attend this virtual conference but if a teacher, mentor, or parent would like to receive free access to the virtual Borlaug Dialogue, student Roundtable Discussions, and workshops, they must complete the Mentor Registration form which can be found at www.worldfoodprize.org/gyiacceptance. At this time, we are limiting registration to one adult per student.

Can I attend additional World Food Prize virtual events beyond what's offered through the Global Youth Institute?

Yes! Just like our in-person GYI experience, students will have free access to the World Food Prize Borlaug Dialogue and attend ground-breaking panels and workshops with leading international food security experts. While we will incorporate a few key Borlaug Dialogue sessions into our GYI schedule, students will have unlimited access to all Borlaug Dialogue presentations and panels even if they are outside our GYI schedule.

How can I best prepare for a virtual GYI experience?

Our team will be regularly updating this webpage with tools and resources to help you make the most of your online experience! We will also send timely updates via email to all selected delegates.

Can I decline my GYI delegate spot this year and hold my spot for the 2022 GYI?

Students will not be allowed to carry over their participation to 2022. If students decline their 2021 invitation, they can participate in their region's 2022 Youth Institute and have a second opportunity to be selected for the 2022 GYI.
