‘Take it to ALL the farmers:’ Ensuring a more equitable and effective agricultural research agenda
Dr. Norman Borlaug famously implored the agricultural research community to ‘take it to the farmer,’ and yet in 2019 we still see that agricultural research and development work can fail to translate to meaningful impacts for ALL farmers by being ‘gender blind.’ Fortunately, we can change this; agricultural research and development work has the ability to reshape rural livelihoods and more equitably deliver benefits for all farmers and value-chain actors. Gender-responsive approaches can help research programs increase technology adoption rates and make donor investments more targeted and effective – reducing the risk that new varieties sit on the shelf or even negate development the progress of development interventions. Join us for a cocktail and finger food reception to hear diverse perspectives on gender and agricultural development, and discuss how to make gender-equitable impact from research reality together.
