The Promise of Prosperity from the Land in the 21st Century
Borlaug’s vision of land-based prosperity as a driver of human improvement is more important today than ever. Global shifts in demographics and technology are creating new opportunities for small landholder producers, especially at the peri-urban fringe. The Borlaug hypothesis that increasing intensity of agricultural production is the only viable path to wildlife conservation has proven to be true. The role of research is critical to realizing the creative and productive potential of humanity.
