World Food Prize Foundation Selects 7 Students for Prestigious George Washington Carver Internship Program

10/28/2021

The World Food Prize Foundation announced today the selection of seven students for its prestigious George Washington Carver (GWC) Internship program this Fall, taking place remotely and in-person at the Foundation’s headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa.

Each semester, the World Food Prize Foundation receives applications from college students from across the nation, selecting a highly talented few each academic Fall, Spring, and Summer. Since the inaugural cohort in the Fall of 2001, the George Washington Carver Internship has impacted over 350 students by providing them first-hand experience running an international non-profit organization and learning the importance of food security on a global level.

“Through this internship I am excited to learn more about global health and alleviating food insecurity here in Iowa and globally. I'm passionate about accessibility and connecting to people from all backgrounds,” said Kathlyn Wagner, Fall Youth Programs Intern.

This fall, students from Iowa State University, Drake University, Loyola University Chicago, and Broward College of Fort Lauderdale, FL, will advance the Foundation’s mission by taking on archive, awards management, event planning, communication, graphic design, and youth programming projects. Each intern is paired with an experienced mentor and presented the opportunity to professionally interact with government officials, World Food Prize Laureates, industry leaders, internationally recognized experts, and the media, all having a major stake in global food security.

Being able to work alongside and meet the leaders of today fighting world hunger at the WFP will certainly be a personal highlight and the beginning of my own career in international food security,” said Jaden Ahlrichs, Fall Communications and Public Relations Intern. “I am grateful for this opportunity.”
