The World Food Prize Foundation announced today that Meghan Walters has joined its staff as Special Assistant to the President.
"I chose Ms. Walters for this important position on our staff based on her impressive service as a George Washington Carver Intern and member of our Event Staff at the Hall of Laureates," said Ambassador Kenneth Quinn, President of the World Food Prize Foundation. "Based on this background and her subsequent international experience as a Fulbright Fellow in Bulgaria, I am certain that she will contribute significantly to our efforts to carry forward the legacy of Dr. Norman Borlaug.”
As Special Assistant to the President, Ms. Walters will be responsible for planning and arranging Ambassador Quinn’s international travel agenda and domestic speaking engagements. In addition, she manages his appointment schedule and correspondence and oversees select administrative procedures and special projects.
Ms. Walters began her association with the World Food Prize Foundation in the fall of 2015 as a George Washington Carver collegiate intern. In that capacity, she worked closely with the Director of Youth Development, assisting in the planning of the Global Youth Institute. She also worked on the Hall of Laureates event staff from 2016-2018 managing a wide variety of private events.
"I am incredibly excited to be back working with the World Food Prize team and its partners; working with the Prize was the highlight of my undergraduate years,” said Ms. Walters. “It’s a blessing to be working alongside such dedicated Iowans and international partners in the fight again global food insecurity.”
Before accepting her position at the World Food Prize, Ms. Walters was on a Fulbright grant overseas working as an English Teaching Assistant in Bulgaria. There she taught English classes and was the coach of a speech and debate team.
A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Drake University, Ms. Walters earned both a Bachelor of Arts in international relations and in public relations. She served as the Vice President of Traditions for the Student Alumni Association, on the Watchcare committee for Alpha Phi, and as an AmeriCorps volunteer at LSI Refugee Center. Ms. Walters spent an academic semester in Morocco studying Arabic and Islam, and has traveled throughout Europe and Thailand.

About the World Food Prize: The World Food Prize is an international award that honors individuals who have improved the quality, quantity, or availability of food world-wide. The Prize was founded by Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, recipient of the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize, for his work that contributed to increases in agricultural outputs which was termed the Green Revolution. Since then, the Prize has been awarded to 48 worthy individuals during the Norman E. Borlaug International Symposium. The Symposium, also known as the Borlaug Dialogue, is a week of events dedicated to an issue surrounding food insecurity or hunger each year.
