The World Food Prize Foundation announced today that Morgan Day has assumed a new role at the Foundation as the Director of Global Programs and Partnerships.
In making this announcement, World Food Prize President Ambassador Kenneth M. Quinn expressed his great pleasure in having Ms. Day undertake this critically important responsibility.
“Morgan began her association with the World Food Prize as a college intern and so impressed me with her performance that I offered her the opportunity to become our Director of Planning, organizing the two most important events our Foundation holds each year,” said Amb. Quinn. “Having done such an exceptional job in that position, I am delighted that she is now willing to take on an equally significant responsibility, in expanding our youth programs both nationally and internationally. I feel certain that she will rise to the challenge.”
As Director of Global Programs and Partnerships, Ms. Day will be responsible, in partnership with Keegan Kautzky, for the expansion of the the World Food Prize Foundation’s existing education programs on a national and international level. She will to work to establish new state youth institutes across America to create opportunities for high school students to explore global issues that affect food security and hunger, and develop their own solutions to the most pressing challenges we face. Through these institutes, students are introduced to academic and career paths in agriculture and STEM fields critical to the fight against hunger.
“I cannot wait to work with young leaders in our youth programs to help them discover their potential to change the world,” said Day. “As a young person, globally focused clubs and programs helped me understand that I could dedicate my professional life to ending global food insecurity. Being able to offer opportunities like this to students across the United States, and now around the world is a unique opportunity.”
Since 2012, Ms. Day has been involved in many endeavors at the World Food Prize Foundation. As a George Washington Carver Intern, she worked directly with the youth program team at the Foundation and then served as Special Assistant to the Foundation President during the 2013 Borlaug Dialogue International Symposium week of events. In 2016, she was appointed Director of Planning at the Foundation.
Prior to working at the Foundation , Ms. Day has devoted her energy to food security issues. She has worked as the Office Manager of the American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico and as a political consultant and policy coordinator at the local and state levels tackling issues in agriculture, food, nutrition and health. As the Coordinator for the Santa Fe City & County Advisory Council on Food Policy, she worked to create a more sustainable, affordable, secure and fair food system. At the state level, Ms. Day was a Policy Specialist with the New Mexico Food & Agriculture Policy Council, where she advocated at the state legislature with food and agriculture stakeholders from across the state, as well as with Navajo and Pueblo tribal partners. Ms. Day was also active in the New Mexico Grown Fresh Fruits and Vegetables for School Meals Steering Committee as the Chair of the Public Policy Committee.
In 2013, Ms. Day earned a Master of Arts in International Development and a concentration in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security Policy from the Josef Korbel School for International Studies at the University of Denver. She graduated with Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Tennessee in Political Science and French in 2010.
Ms. Day replaces Libby Crimmings, who departed from the Foundation in August.
