Director of International Internships and Career Development
Crystal Harris joined the World Food Prize Foundation in 2012 as the Special Assistant to the President. Ms. Harris also served as the Senior Administrative Officer, which included directing the Iowa Hunger Summit in 2016 and 2017. In 2017, Ms. Harris was named Director of International Internships and Career Development.
Ms. Harris is now responsible for the direction and implementation of the Borlaug-Ruan International Internship program as well as the Foundation’s efforts to strengthen relationships with youth program graduates and support them in terms of career development. In addition to these roles she serves as the Director of the George Washington Carver Internship program.
Ms. Harris holds a B.S. in Biology from Drake University in Des Moines, IA. She has also spent two academic semesters abroad: first, through a literature studies program in London, England; and second, at the School for International Training in Durban, South Africa, where she completed two research projects including one on the hindrances to tuberculosis control in semi-rural South Africa at a TB/HIV clinic. Crystal has also spent time studying health issues at home, interning at the Iowa Department of Public Health, Bureau of HIV, STD and Hepatitis, collaborating with the staff to conduct clinic audits.
